Background  Matthew David McConaughey was born on November 4, 1969 in Uvalde, Texas.  He is the youngest of 3 brothers which both still work with the family oil business.  His mother, Katherine, is a substitute teacher and his father, Jim, played football for the Green Bay Packers from 1967-1968.  In high school Matthew played football and was also voted “Most Handsome.”  He spent 1 year in Australia where he worked helping a law firm, and then returned to Texas.  After returning to Texas he attended the University of Texas at Austin where he studied film direction.

4. Accomplishments  Spends time and money working with several different charities including the Pediatric AIDS Foundation and Make A Wish.  Won the 1997 Lonestar Film and Television Award for Special rising Star Actor.  Won the 1997 MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Performance
