What is a Learning Community? It’s like a family… Think about how you want to be treated Respect each person’s right to speak and share an idea or opinion Listen to understand Offer encouragement when it is needed Be honest, but kind Be a participant, not an observer

What is the teacher’s job? Your teacher will: Work closely with students to help them grow as thinkers and learners Provide information about the research process Teach research skills and presentation skills Share ideas and resources Guide students, provide encouragement and support as needed Listen to understand

What kind of thinker are you? Consider… People think differently Everyone has unique strengths and talents Some have to write everything down Some hum while they learn Some think better when they’re moving What about you? Dr. Howard Gardner, Ph.D., Harvard, developed a theory of multiple intelligences

Taking notes, doing research… As you learn about the 8 different intelligences and identify famous examples, choose 3 that are most interesting Create a Tree Map with a branch for each person that interests you Do a little research to learn about each person and why they are examples of each type of intelligence
