Mrs. Reyes's 3rd Grade Class Back to School Night 2014-2015

All About Mrs. Reyes I have been teaching for 13 years. This is my 4 th year at Marshall. I am an exchange teacher from the Philippines. I am certified to teach in North Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia. I am a General Education teacher and has an endorsement on Teaching English as a Second Language. I have been married for 10 years and has 2 girls.

But most importantly…. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE being a teacher! Your children are very important to me. Their education is very important to me. I will fall in love with them by the end of the year.

3rd Grade Curriculum Prince William County Curriculum incorporates the Virginia Standards of Learning Students will receive instruction in reading, writing, math, social studies, and science. Third graders have SOLs in Reading and Math. Did you know that your child attends the highest performing elementary school (SOLs) in Prince William County?

Graded Subjects Reading Writing Math Social Studies Science Work labeled “CP” is classroom practice and not averaged in the grade book. Work labeled “HP” is home practice and not averaged in the grade book.

Fourth Grade Grading Policies Classwork counts as 1 grade (or CP) Homework is checked for immediate feedback and marked HP Quizzes count as 2 grades Projects (including writing prompts) count as 2-3 grades Unit tests count as 3 grades

Graded Subjects Reading – Time for Kids, comprehension quick checks, reading response journals, etc. Writing - Prompts of 1-4 paragraphs, Grammar

Math – weekly quick check, Math 4 Today, unit tests, etc. Social Studies – quizzes, class work, unit tests, projects Science – quizzes, class work, inquiry, unit tests

BLENDED MATH PROGRAMS New(ish) Math Program – Student text book is online. Parents can print worksheets, homework, or extra practice. Website: www.connected.mcgraw-hill.com. Every student has a username and password. Information to follow. Math Investigations – Still being used, just not as frequently. Strategies are fantastic and I will still use them in class. Example: one away subtraction, open number line, place value addition and subtraction.

Parent Portal & Online Grade Book You must have an active Parent Portal account to view grades online. Visit the Marshall Website to register Interims will go home in October Report cards go home in November Go to Mrs. Reyes’s class website to sign up for Parent-Teacher Conference on November 3 rd and 4 th. You may use QR code, too.
