2 2 How to be an excellent teacher?

3 3 Planning ( 5 marks ) The planning mark is given for: Daily lesson planning ( must be accumulative, reflecting variable teaching strategies as well as comprehensive academic material) Different types of classroom interaction should be included in the written transcript A template model has been designed for you.

4 4 Planning includes: Daily lesson plan Remedial plan for weak Ss. ( on a monthly basis) Enrichment plan for talented Ss. Co curricular activity plan ( A model has been designed for each type)

5 5 Cognitive competency This aspect is worth 15 marks. Academics Pronunciation Accuracy of the language Participation during academic and professional discussions and workshops Correctness of info presented to Ss

6 6 Professional Development It is worth 10 marks. 5 marks for individual initiatives like attending conversation courses, applying for IELTS, TKT certificate, attending any specialized work shops. 5 marks for attending supervision / MOE workshops and class visits. A follow up sheet will be activated by supervisors to measure the effect of training.

8 8 “My Readings” It is a project for teachers Aim: to maintain professional & academic development of teachers. Process: Supervisors will hold a monthly seminar on a pre- set date to listen to teachers’ readings.

9 9 Duration: between 5 /10 minutes for each teacher. It is totally individual work. Attendees: domestic staff only. Genre of readings: psychological, pedagogical, curriculum design, comparative education. Sources: Newspaper articles, research, English teaching forum, internet, books… Teachers have to present their readings using P.P or any other form of presentation, stating why they found the reading useful.

10 10 Documentation: By the end of the academic year there must be 6 readings accumulated in teachers’ portfolio. Evaluation: Supervisory team will use a rubric sheet to evaluate the value of the reading & the presentation technique.

24 E. Teachers’ P D Samples of the following : Certificates and commentary on workshops conducted by MOE,Supervisors or any other professional organization.
