Housekeeping Why is good housekeeping in the work place so important? Workplace Housekeeping is fundamental to maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment. Two main benefits: Reduce risk of injuries, Reduce risk of fire

What is an emergency? ‘A serious, unexpected, and often dangerous situation requiring immediate action.’

11:2 Emergencies Identify as many incidents that could happen in a warehouse that would be classed as an emergency. EMERGENCY HELP

Dealing with emergencies Some staff will receive specialist training in how to deal with certain aspects of emergencies, these include: Fire marshals Assembly point marshals Fire extinguisher training Disabled person evacuation training First aid training Evacuation procedures / Drills

COMAH New regulations came in to force 1 st June 2015 Control Of Major Accident Hazards The aim of the regulations is to prevent and mitigate the effects on people and the environment of major accidents involving dangerous substances.

11:3 Do’s and don’ts of fire

Fire What are the most common causes of fire in the workplace? Faulty electrical equipment Overheating machinery Cigarettes and matches

Fire prevention Close all doors and windows. Never overload electrical points. Switch off all appliances when not in use. Replace damaged or worn electrical leads. Smokers must extinguish all cigarettes and to store matches and lighters in a safe place. If you smell gas, ventilate and evacuate from the building. Inform Security or Facilities and ensure the emergency services for gas are notified.
