BRAIN STORMING Directions: Participate in a brain-storming session with the other students at the table. What are some ways that you can learn tolerance for someone or a group that is different than you? 1. Are there groups of people who are still experiencing prejudice or discrimination in our country? 2. What different cultures or religions are represented in our county that may be misunderstood or stereotyped? 3. Some teens are marginalized or isolated – why does this still happen in our society and who are they?

Project Proposal Directions: Discuss your project with your teacher! The project needs to be appropriate, challenging, and enlightening!!

MAPPING OUT THE PROJECT Action Plan: Identify your activity Know what step or steps of developing tolerance that you are addressing Put together the steps that you will need to take to accomplish your plan Set up your time-line to ensure that you have the project completed by the due date.

REFLECT ON YOUR LEARNING Reflect: Think deeply; consider What did you learn? What steps of developing tolerance did you experience – how and why? (Review next slide)

STEPS FOR DEVELOPING TOLERANCE The four steps of developing tolerance are as follows: 1) Examining our stereotypes 2) Understanding the source of our feelings and beliefs 3) Developing empathy 4) Reaching out to others

Assessment of Project: 30 points Use the checklist to ensure that you have all of the elements that you need to earn the full points. Present your action plan and time-line in a clear and precise manner 2 points Do the project – discuss any changes or problems you encountered in relationship to your action plan. Provide some sort of evidence that you completed the project. (Parent signature, teacher signature, picture, etc.) 15 points Identify the “Developing Tolerance” steps that you practiced while completing your project. Name the step and explain how you addressed the step. 3 points Reflective paragraph – consider deeply what you learned by doing the project. 10 points
