Which is the Odd One?Why is it the Odd One Out? Dead organism Heat Pressure 100’s of millions of years Cementation

Test: will be returned tomorrow o Thursday we will have another opportunity to prove mastery on Deltas, Friday we will have the same opportunity for sedimentary rocks in the form of an exit ticket. You will need to be able to explain in your own words what they are and how they are made using key vocabulary o Friday we will have reading workshop of weather and climate. o Tutoring for science will start this six weeks and be based off of a practice staar test that we will take next week.
3
I saw a trend when grading the test over the break What is a delta? o Is it the path that the water carves or weathers out of the ground as it flows? The piled up sediment that is around the river and bulges into the ocean?
5
Review plickers! This plickers game has a question from each key subject area that we have studies this year… How much have you retained??
6
The Rio Grande Valley is located at the southern tip of Texas at the end of a long river known as the Rio Grande. How did the delta at the end of the Rio Grande form? ASand and mud from the Gulf of Mexico were washed ashore by tsunamis. BThe river cut through the solid bedrock of the valley. CThe river deposited large amounts of sediment from land erosion. DHurricanes pushed soil and debris from the Gulf of Mexico onto the land.
7
Odd one out o -weathering o -Erosion o -Deposition o -Process o -Agent

A circled question means that you missed all or part of the question Two grades went on the report card o #/# = sedimentary rocks and fossil fuels / landforms and changes to the earth Circled words at the tops such as “mixtures and solutions” or “light” represent subjects that you still need to show mastery on. I will pull you on Friday to see if you still need some help or if you’ve got it. Please seek me out during study hall or morning time for help with these if you need, use your science notebook, stem scopes and my website for an easy review.
9
Create a new journal section titled: Earth and Space Create a new page number titled “weather and climate” “I will understand the differences between weather and climate” “
10
What are some things that we consider weather? o Create a circle map map in your journal with “Weather” at the center How does weather effect us?
11
What are some things that we consider weather? o Temperature o Wind speed o Sunny or cloudy o Precipitation How does weather effect us? o What can we do outside today? o Safety? o Transportation
12
Spend 5 minutes at your table discussing what you think a good definition of weather is.
13
Weather-The conditions of the atmosphere for a specific place over a short amount of time. (Hour, day, week) Conditions of the atmosphere – what its like outside
15
Why does the weather change? Why is it different from place to place?
16
Why does the weather change? Why is it different from place to place? The answer to both, is the uneven heating of the earth The Uneven heating of the earth by the sun causes weather o Causes wind o Drives the water cycle o Places with more direct sunlight are usually warmer, with less are cooler
17
Why is it tilted? o Because the earth rotates on a tilted axis Caused by an impact of a giant asteroid The same one that caused our moon to form (more on this in a few weeks) Uneven heating of the earth? o Size and shape of the earth Lets model this.

CityH/L temp day 1Day 2Day 3Day 4Day 5Day 6Day 7 Aubrey Bismarck Los Angeles We will track one weather condition for 3 different cities over the next 7 days (we will catch up on the weekend on Monday. At the end of the 7 day period you will summarize the trend that the saw in each city as well as make a temperature prediction based on the trend.
