Mom, dad, and your sister run over to see what all of your screeching is about. Your dad grabs an ax to chop the tree down. Your mom tells him to stop so she can call an exterminator. Just then your sister shouts “NO! Honeybees are important! We need them!” Now what? You want your bike, but you don’t know what to do with the honeybees. Why did your sister say that bees are important? Do we really need them? What do they do anyway? HELP!

You will gather information about honeybees, record your information on research sheets, and keep your research organized in your scientific binder. Presentation: Choose one of the three topics from the honeybee research. Have a meeting with your group members to discuss how you will present this information. Each person MUST have a part. Be creative! Letter: Your letter should follow the format of a friendly letter. Now you can begin your individual task. Think back to the reason you were asked to gather information about honeybees. Your bike is in the shed, and you want to get it out so you can take it for a spin. However, the hive is still next to the door, and it is buzzing with bees! At this point, you should have some ideas about what can be done and who can help. Think back to your original questions. Are honeybees important? Do we really need them? Use one of these graphic organizers to brainstorm your ideas before writing a persuasive letter to your parents. Remember, persuasive writing is done to try to convince someone to do or believe something. State your thesis (what you want your parents to do about the honeybees), and choose three good reasons to support your thesis (why they should do what yougraphicorganizers are asking).
