 Check the lab building calendar to see if iPads are reserved for the day you’re interested in  Email Erin (emsterling@seattleschools.org) with the following information:emsterling@seattleschools.org  Days and periods you would like the iPads  Brief description of lesson plan activities with iPad  Suggestion: invite Erin to co-teach a lesson with you!

 Pick up the iPad cart in the library backroom before 7:35 the morning you are using the iPads  Sign-out the iPads on the sign-out sheet with date/time, name, and iPad #s.  Ask Erin for any questions

 Students must always sign-in to the iPads by filling out a new page in the binder. Put old pages in the back of the binder.  All food or beverages must be off the tables  Tables must be clear and students must be in their seats  Students can only work on assigned academic work or they will lose the privilege of using the iPads  Students must not go into the Off Limits area

 Plan lessons so that partners/teams can work on the iPads because there are currently only 19 in total  Design for the specific capabilities of the technology.  Test what you would like students to do on an iPad before teaching to make sure it works

 Currently, the apps on the iPads are: Photo Booth, QuickVoice, Google Earth, Dictation, Flipboard, Dictionary, Evernote, Sticky Notes, Kindle, Dropbox, iMovie, Notability, Dictionary, Prezi Viewer, Keynote, Strip Designer  If you have an app request, please talk to Erin. The process for purchasing apps is a long process that needs to be started weeks ahead of time. (Free apps take less time.)  Accessibility Features (Settings/General/Accessibility): You can turn on VoiceOver (speaks items on the screen), Zoom, Large Text, Invert Colors, Speak Selection

 Each teacher has a Dropbox folder that is shared with their teacher email. FYI: You may need to create a Dropbox account to use it.  In *most* apps, there is an option to send the file to Dropbox. You will want to teach students how to send their work to the correct Dropbox folder.

 Make sure students have closed out of all tabs in Safari  Make sure all work/images/etc. have been removed from the iPads (unless using them for multiple days)  Go back to the home screen of the iPad  Double tap on the home button to see open applications and then close them  At the end of each day you are using the iPads, return the iPads to the library

1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to access volume controls 2. Double-tap the home button to see what apps are open. To close-out of apps from that screen, swipe the app/screen up. (You can teach students to do this at the end of every class). 3. Triple-tap the home button to invert the colors. 4. Use 4 or 5 fingers to swipe between apps.

1. Open settings menu and check the wireless network – it should be logged onto the Eckstein private WPA network. 2. If the incorrect network is accessed turn the power off and wait 30 seconds then turn power back on.

1. Try pushing the rectangular sleep/power button on the top of the iPad 2. If step one does not work plug iPad into a power socket and check the charge. Most likely the batteries are low

This is a common problem if you are wanting to access sites that display pictures or video or games. Many PC accessed websites use an application called flash to run the graphics for games or to display visual content. IOS (the iPad operating system) cannot access flash based content. To avoid this, test your lesson on the iPad and school network first!
