What is NHS? National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
4
Why should I apply? You are a part of one of the most prestigious high school organizations in the country. Looks great on college applications! Opens up opportunities for leadership and service. NHS only scholarship opportunities Social events + end of the year banquet You get to wear a fancy collar at graduation!
5
What does an NHS member Look Like? He or she is a classified as a junior or senior. (Sophomores can apply at the end of 10 th grade if they have completed all requirements.) He or she maintains at least a 4.0 cumulative GPA throughout the school year. He or she demonstrates excellence in character and leadership both on campus and in the community. All members must complete a total of 30 service hours throughout the year. 15 of those hours need to come from NHS sponsored events. Each student is required to attend a leadership conference in the fall semester to develop and hone his or her leadership skills. All NHS members are also required to pay membership dues. Yearly dues are $30 for juniors and $55 for seniors (to pay for your collar!)

What We Do:
8
Candidate Selection Form The application for NHS is essentially an extended resume. You want to showcase your best self. Make sure to be thorough when you are recording your activities, awards, and service. This is not the time to be modest!
9
Candidate Selection Form Instructions The Candidate Selection Form requires you to list your activities and achievements according to three of our NHS pillars: character, leadership, and service. An adult sponsor or supervisor my sign as verification of participation in an activity or for the receipt of an award. You need to request two teacher recommendations. You may choose any teachers who currently teach at AHS, but at least one of them must be a current core subject teacher. Do not procrastinate. Please ask for recommendations early!
