H OW TO D O C HOIR N OTES When we take notes in this class off of powerpoints, you are required to copy the parts that are highlighted in red or yellow. Make sure that you: Skip lines between different paragraphs. Use bullet points when I do. Start a new page for new subjects. Key Terms : Underline and put a star in the margin CopyChartsClearly

H OW TO D O C HOIR N OTES Don’t: Cram your notes together. Take up way too much space. Skip too many lines or pages Write or draw offensive things Destroy your notebook

G RADING FOR C HOIR N OTES Notes assignments are worth 3 points each. If I can’t easily find your assignment in your note book you will not get credit. If you write/draw anything offensive on your assignment you will not get credit. If your journal is falling apart you will be responsible for getting a replacement for it. DON’T. LOSE. YOUR. JOURNAL.

F INAL G RADE P ERCENTAGES 40% Class Participation/Professionalism – grade every other week 20% Quizzes – about every other week (music history & literature, elements, literacy, vocal technique, professionalism, etc.) 20% Notes & Writing – about twice a week 20% 2 Performances – in October and December (Participation & Professionalism) I do not grade you on how well you sing. I do grade on how well you sight-read & participate in activities.

Be polite & attentive. Follow directions. Have a positive attitude. Be respectful to self & others. Be on time to class. Do not leave until you are dismissed. Strictly follow the dress code. No using electronics unless a teacher specifically approves and supervises you. Do not bring anything illegal or harmful to school. JAA R ULES ( SUMMARIZED )

Cheating is presenting someone else’s ideas as your own or performing assignments in a forbidden way. 1 st Time – Receive an F on assignment 2 nd Time – Receive an F for semester grade 3 rd Time – Apologize before board JAA C HEATING P OLICY

If you miss class for any reason: You must inform me if you missed school and request any make-up assignments. You will not have to make up participation points. You will have to make up journal writes, quizzes, note checks, and group assignments. M AKE -U P A SSIGNMENTS

Concerts are worth about two letter grades: You must notify me if you miss a concert for whatever reason and request a make-up assignment. (Tell me ahead of time, if you can.) Your make-up assignment will be due 2 weeks from the day of the concert you missed. Missing a concert and not making it up can cause you to fail choir! C ONCERT A TTENDANCE R EQUIREMENT

Bathroom breaks should be done between classes and should only be done during class in an emergency. Frequent bathroom trips during class (more than once in a two-week period) can lower your participation grade. (And I will call home.) You are not allowed to use electronics in the bathroom or meet up with other scholars. You are generally not allowed to go talk to another teacher or scholar during class. L EAVING D URING C LASS
