Interactions – Textile and Environment The Divine Imperative – Command of God "בְּשָׁעָה שֶׁבָּרָא הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא אֶת אָדָם הָרִאשׁוֹן, ְנטָלוֹ וְהֶחֱזִירוֹ עַל כָּל אִילָנֵי גַּן עֵדֶן ְואָמַר לוֹ: רְאֵה מַעֲשַׂי כַּמָּה נָאִים וּמְשׁוּבָּחִין הֵן וְכָל מָה שֶׁבָּרָאתִי- בִּשְׁבִילְךָ בָּרָאתִי, תַּן דַּעְתְּךָ שֶׁלֹּא תְּקַלְקֵל וְתַחֲרִיב אֶת עוֹלָמִי, שֶׁאִם קִלְקַלְתָּ אֵין מִי שֶׁיְּתַקֵּן אַחֲרֶיךָ." בס"ד The philosophy that works! “When G-d created the first man He took him and showed him all the trees of the Garden of Eden and said to him: ‘See My works, how beautiful and praiseworthy they are, and everything that I created, I created it for you. Be careful not to spoil or destroy My world – for if you do, there will be nobody after you to repair it.”

COPEN FABRICS LTD A story of commitment & projection The first textile factory established in Israel since 2 decades. Main factory goal – export of fabrics under the QIZ agreement. Owners committed to reduce the human ecological foot print, by: √Meeting the requirements (rules) of air pollution. √Re-cycling all raw materials waste. And the main target…

The Problem Dyestuffs Surfactants Oily substances Natural materials Organic and inorganic salts Solvents Acids and alkalis Suspended solids Dyehouse wastewater contaminants include: specific requirements Authorities have specific requirements for maximum allowable contaminant concentrations in the waste stream. difficult to comply cost prohibitive These requirements are often difficult to comply with in an industrial setting and are usually cost prohibitive
4
The Challenge To efficiently remove color from the effluent To meet other stringent criteria Traditional effluent treatment technologies are : IneffectiveIneffective for stringent requirements Not robustNot robust enough to withstand dyehouse effluent Too expensiveToo expensive in installation and/or upkeep to be considered viable for this industry Main parameters measured in textile dyehouse effluent are: Visible light transmission at 1:20 dilution pH Conductivity AOX TOC BOD COD
5
The System The purification system comprises of two sequential main modules: An electro catalytic cell (ELCAT). A compact bio reactor (BIO). The electrolizer oxidizes color and other contaminants, while the bio reactor deals with BOD/COD, TOC, oils and fats and other organic contaminants.
6
Either the ELCAT module or the BIO module can be bypassed, depending on the nature of incoming contaminants. Process Flowchart Filter pH adjust ELCAT BIO Waste stream Clean Discharge
