3. Main Idea A main idea of the Performance Art movement was to make sure the art was as realistic as possible. The art usually would be performed by the artist themselves and they used this as a way to rejuvenate their creativity when they were blocked. The line between art and life should be kept as fluid, and perhaps indistinct, as possible. Allan Kaprow

4. Main Idea It reflects the rise of feminism, which encouraged other political issues. Such as, anti-war activism, which supplied models for politicized art “actions.”

Influences…  Artist turned to performance art as a way to break down categories and indicate new directions.  It has been a starting point for some of the most radical ideas that have changed the way artist think.  This form of art’s roots are plated in Futurism, Dada, and Surrealism.  Though it started in the early 1900’s, the art of performance idea didn’t boom until the 1950’s.  This art strives during political unrest and social strife.

8. Timeline…  Starting in 1910, it is still a form of art that is common to this day.  It strived through both World Wars, Vietnam, and the rise of feminism.

13. What I think about Performance Art… Performance Art is a movement that influenced the way art works forever. The artists were given more of a voice during times of unrest, and that’s what I believe made this such a powerful movement. Personally, my favorite artist is Yoko Ono because of the strong feminist views that she portrays in her work.
