3 History of NAMSS 1970’s NAMSS was first formed in California in 1971 The first national conference was held in 1977 The certification process was initiated in 1978

4 History of NAMSS (cont.) 1980’s Membership grows and NAMSS gets a new name in 1980 Education expands and a relationship between NAMSS and the AMA is born in 1984 NAMSS goes regional in 1986

5 History of NAMSS (cont.) NAMSS gets represented on the TJC Task Force in 1987 Introduction of the Charlotte O. Cochrane scholarship in 1988 State presidents come together at first state president’s educational retreat in 1989

10 What Does NAMSS Do for MSPs? Serves as the voice of the profession, advocating on behalf of MSPs across the nation. Provides essential education and professional development opportunities. Informs and connects a network of medical staff and credentialing services professionals. Supports state affiliates and associations on the local level.

11 Strategic Objectives Objective 1: Ensure that NAMSS professionals are qualified, skilled and competent in assessing healthcare providers Objective 2: Emphasize NAMSS professionals as “the gatekeepers of patient safety” and the beginning of the revenue cycle Objective 3: Establish a recognized career leadership pathway for NAMSS professionals who are assessing the competency of healthcare providers

12 Achieving our Objectives Ensure that NAMSS professionals are qualified, skilled and competent in assessing healthcare providers Develop a new competency model which includes additional skills and knowledge areas outside the traditional functions of the profession.
