ECO-BELT R&D PVT.LTD. Ecologically Conscious Oriented – Bioremedial Everlasting Low-cost Technology Sustainable banana farming for profitability Maintenance of natural ecosystem Higher per-acre crop yield Integrated farming with coconut and arecanut 1. Ecological stewardship 2. Free market viability 3. Least labor cost 4. 25% of the recommended inorganic nutrients 5. Quantifiable organic nutrients
2
Sustainable Economics Cost economicsArea : 1 Acre, Planting geometry: 2 m x 2 m Fixed cost of drip system : Rs. 25,000 Life of system : 10 years Cost of cultivation : Rs. 25,000 Expected yield : 25t/acre Expected Benefit-Cost ratio : 2.25L
3
1acre farming with coconut of 5years and native banana variety of 7month, propagated thro’ suckers
4
Micropropagated plantlets are planted in conventional method by the incorporation of well matured cattle dung and wild Aloe vera as medicinal value
5
Undisturbed surround soil Planted in a pit system. Pits dug up using JCB Pits with lush green grass with harmony helping to keep ants and termites at bay and also helps in moisture retention
6
This is 6month old native plant. Just planting is done in a methodical old style. The rest of the surrounding land is untouched to safe- guard the life within.
7
No meddling in the farmland. This piece of land allowed as fallow since 2 years after banana plantation of 6 years. In the current monsoon year planting of tissue culture banana will be taken up
8
We are not intend to have a uniform cropping system. In our leisurely hours our one single labour does planting of the native banana plantlets the available space.
9
This coconut tree is 5year old and of local tall variety. Yielding has started. The nuts are in good demand thro’out the year. It is not labor-oriented. Once in 6months inputs are provided. FYM and/or cattle dung with poultry manure of broilers are incorporated at the rate of 20Kg/tree. Chemical fertilizers of N,P,K of 2Kg given per tree. Neem cake of 5Kg/ tree/ year
10
Among the trees of coconut and banana here and there are with mango and cashewnut planted
11
Throughout the year the open spaces of the entire farm of 6acres is with natural ground cover. There is harmony in its own style.
12
Double cropping system of the banana plantation among arecanut and coconut. There is synchrony in growth pattern
13
The ground not disturbed ecologically there is balance and monetarily save on
14
At every six feet is two banana standing crop. Observe the dried up leaves that are thrashed after the harvests. This provide a cover up safety for the stems.
15
The yield is not uniform which is advantegeous to get the crop according to our national festivals that happen from August to March
16
Each tree is surrounded by its gown a protectivity especially during summers
17
This plantation is in one acre with 40 fruit yielding coconuts 20 with arecanuts and 700 banana
18
Two ratoon crops in the second year. The harvest will be done after 60 days. See the uniformity in the growth. Each weigh 25Kg. As a single crop we would get - 30Kg. Now with two crop of 50Kg. Manuring and fertilization has been nearly double.
19
The height of the stem is av.8ft. The weight of fruits is 25Kg. there is synchrony in growth pattern
20
Drip irrigation is provided once in 4 days for 4hours. The retention of dried leaves without detachment from the stem creates a warm humid conditions and must have effect on control of pests and pathogens. The stems are well protected from weather conditions.
21
The areca trees are 4years old.
22
Last year as a ground crop sweet pumpkin were grown.
23
There are 15 sapota (chikku) trees that provide annually 150Kg of fruits
24
The farm look during the daylight. We hardly visit the place even though it is in front of our home of 5ft distance. We believe in undisturbance
25
Almost equi- distance space of approximately 6ft has been provided around each tree of banana, areca nut and coconut. There is airy and warmth in sufficiency
26
With two stumps in a given area, nature has assembled the growth pattern without any overlapping.
27
We observed that there is some kind of protectiveness created by the dried leaves and there are no fungal attack or decaying observed in the dried leaves because they are still attached to the stump.
28
Another view of the farm
29
There is an effectiveness in the pheramone traps in checking of the red weevils
30
The coconut trees are in good health compared to the other farms nearby without any intercropping. Banana intercropping may be a must.
31
This is the second crop of banana. We are planned to have single ratoon in the third crop and with allowance of 2 suckers in the 4 th crop for observations
32
Dried coconut fronds are left on the ground if not interfering with the crops
33
A view of a natural system
34
A kind of second storey canopy creation
35
A view of the ground Overlapping and natural flowing of dried leaves A natural process seen during summer Helps in moisture retention in the soil strata Rare visits are done only during fertilization and manuring and harvesting Under Drip irrigation the plantations are peaceful
36
A systematic view created by the nature – no human intervention
37
A natural habitat for termites Observe the space around the tree girth Rind around the base done with the onset of rains During rainy season av. rain of once in 15 days assured No drip system under rainy season
38
Observe the dried stump of the mother plant After the harvest the healthy stump is retained Nutrients are transported to the other suckers This way fungal attacks are arrested
39
To be harvested in 60 days time
40
A view of the healthy arecanut within the banana plantation
41
A view of the stem girth and the distance deviation apart in a natural way
42
The ratoon crop The approx. height of the stem is 8ft. The approx. weight of the banana 25Kg
43
A view of the ratoon crop
44
A view of the crop, yet harvest after 60days
45
Harmony in plantation
46
Double crop with av. yield of 25Kg each
47
A healthy view
48
Mango trees of 5years planted on the border line of the plantation
49
A view without weeding
50
Abundant ground cover by the acacia and jackfruit trees
51
Jackfruit trees beside the plantation
52
Cashew trees among the plantation
53
Yield of arecanut
54
In the coming monsoon this area will be planted with banana plantlets
55
A view of ecological co-operation
56
Wastes of coconut plantation allowed as ground cover and mainly converted by termites and earthworms
57
Yet another view
58
This area of 2 acres now going in for fallow since 1year. Lush green grass harvested here and there
59
Another similar view
60
Yielding tree of 5year old
61
Another plot ready for banana plantation. 2years ago a successive crop of native variety banana crop maintained for 5years
62
On the natural bunds beside the plantation are grown drumstick trees
63
2 acres land with native banana and coconut orchard and pumpkin as ground crop
64
He is the single labor works for 6hrs in 6 acres farm
65
Ecologically sustainable farming
66
The rest of the area will be going with banana plantlets in the monsoon that will be maintained for the next 7years
