3. CONTENT  New Common Core math standards  At least half of the year is review of topics introduced in elementary school.  We assume your child has mastery over basic math facts. ► Parents will be contacted during the first week if remediation is necessary.

4. A Typical Day… ► Warm-ups ► Checking homework for understanding ► Weekly quizzes on homework ► Introduction of new lesson ► Group or individual discovery ► Preparation for continued practice at home

5. A Typical Night… ► Practice of new concepts after school hours is ESSENTIAL! ► Plan 20-30 minutes Monday to Thursday. ► Provide support but don’t do work for your child. (on-line tutor might be helpful) ► Understanding is essential. Quizzes on the homework will follow!

7. GETTING EXTRA HELP…

Getting extra help… ► Khanacademy.com or ixl.com have great tutorials ► Peer tutors can help several days per week after school…and it’s FREE! ► Students may come in on Thursdays at lunch or anytime I am in my room NOT teaching. ► Students may retake tests at lunch once a week. (if homework is complete)

9. Challenging my child… ► Common Core projects are inherently challenging but are also made up of many simple steps. There is something for every level. ► Is your child struggling? Good! It’s called exercise for the brain. ► If your child can solve a problem one way, challenge them to solve it a different way.

10. Keeping in contact… ► Progress reports (C- or below) reported every 4 weeks. ► Dana’s website has current grades by going to  powerschool.ausd.net and using the student ID number as the username and the network password of the student as the password powerschool.ausd.net ► Send me an email!
