O UR C LASS R ULE Do everything you can to help yourself and others learn.

3 RD G RADE G ROWING P AINS Students need challenge in a supportive environment in order to grow and reach their potential. It is normal for students to struggle at times! Independence: Third graders are working to gain independence and responsibility for their learning. Support Team: Teachers and parents are here to support them in this growth.

D AILY S CHEDULE 8:05-8:15 Time to prepare for the day 8:15 Class begins Morning recess 11:20-12:00 Recess & Lunch 1:55-3:10 Arts and Humanities (AH’s) classes **Snack is allowed to be eaten anytime during the day providing it doesn’t cause a distraction. Thank you for sending only fresh fruits and vegetables without dips or sauces.

H OMEWORK Read daily for at least 20 minutes aloud to someone Listen to a fluent reader daily (ie. Parent, older sibling) Practice reading skills Lexia (RCE website) 20 minutes daily Practice basic math facts daily (addition, subtraction, multiplication) Multiplication.com (link in RCE 3 rd grade links) Xtramath.com (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) Math work page sent home as review occasionally Spelling words

R EADING A T HOME Goal: Students are reading books they’ve chosen, they’re interested in and are a good fit for them (not too hard, not too easy) We are creating a community of readers Schoology assignments (watch for information via email)

S PELLING New pattern each week Lists will be differentiated Students choose own list from class-created list and add 5 high-frequency words Students will copy list into their planner on first day of the week Activities in class to practice words Friday tests

M EETING THE NEEDS OF STUDENTS Small group instruction in math, reading and writing based on student needs Groups change as needs change Enrichment and practice opportunities will be given Teachers work closely with support personnel at Ranch Creek to evaluate and meet needs

G RADING Marks on graded papers E (Exceeding grade level benchmarks consistently) M (Meeting grade level benchmarks independently) P/Prg (Progressing toward benchmarks and/or requires help to complete skill) B/Bel. (Below grade level benchmarks) Cumulative grade at end of quarter shows growth toward benchmark skills.

P LANNERS Filled out daily (M-F) with list of concepts/skills covered in class Exceptions to regular homework listed in last box Parents sign planner each night in yellow box Sent home every night

V OLUNTEERING Must have taken volunteer training this year to go on field trips or help in the classroom. In class and from home opportunities will be available. Please email to let me know how you’d like to help.
