Goal 12: The impact of all main causes / risk-factors of lifestyle related NCDs in the ND countries are addressed (in addition to alcohol and tobacco targeted through Goals 7-9): overweight, low fruit and vegetable intake, trans fat avoidance, high salt-intake, insufficient vitamin-D intake, high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, low physical activity (sedentary lifestyle), and factors related to mental health problems

DeliverablesGOAL 12: to put more specific emphasis on the NCD prevention. 1) NDPHS Action Statement on NCDs with full commitment to the global and European NCD Action Plan of WHO and UN. 2) Thematic paper on NCDs has been prepared and is in the process to be finalized. It will provide a working tool for NCD EG members (working in national ministries and public health organizations) to make their efforts more goal oriented. 3) “NON-PAPER” NDPHS EGs’ & TGs’ action for implementation of the European Strategy for the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases in Northern Dimension Partnership area 2012-2016

Political Declaration on NCDs  Surveillance: Calls for a monitoring framework and global and national targets and indicators  Prevention: Calls on Member States to accelerate the implementation of the WHO FCTC, the Global Strategy on Diet, Physical Activity and Health, and the Global Strategy to Reduce the Harmful Use of Alcohol and cost-effective interventions.  Management: Calls on Member States to strengthen health systems that support primary care and prioritise early detection and treatment and improve access to affordable essential medicines for NCDs  Partnership: Requests the Secretary-General to submit to the General Assemly options for strengthening and facilitating multisectoral action for prevention and control of NCDs through partnership

UN High-level Meeting Declaration on NCDs Current ongoing processes on consultation Surveillance: Global Monitoring Framework and voluntary targets:  22 March – 19 April 2012: Second web-based consultation  26 April 2012: Informal consultation with Member States and UN Agencies Partnership: Strengthening and facilitating multisectoral action:  19 March – 19 April 2012: Web-based consultation oOutcomes of both consultations will be reported back to the upcoming World Health Assembly
