EVALUATING INVERSE TRIG EXPRESSIONS WITH COMPOSITIONS AND VARIABLES DR. SHILDNECK
2
THINGS YOU MUST REMEMBER! THIS MEANS THAT THE ONLY ANSWERS YOU CAN GET ARE IN THOSE RANGES!!!
3
EXAMPLES
4
COMPOSITIONS WITH INVERSE TRIG THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF INVERSE TRIG EXPRESSIONS. 1. FUNCTION(ARCFUNCTION(X)) 2. ARCFUNCTION(FUNCTION(X)) OFFICIALLY, YOU SHOULD ALWAYS EVALUATE FROM THE INSIDE OUT… (THERE IS ONE SHORTCUT) ALSO, YOU SHOULD BE CAREFUL TO FOLLOW YOUR RULES FOR THE DOMAINS/RANGES OF YOUR INVERSES.
5
Type 1: Same Function on the Outside (Easiest) Evaluate each function. Use radians for your answers when appropriate.
6
Type 2: Different Function on the Outside (Standard Values) Evaluate each function. Use radians for your answers when appropriate.
7
Type 3: Inverse Function on the Outside (Standard Angles) Evaluate each function. Use radians for your answers when appropriate.
8
Type 4: Different Function on the Outside (Non-Standard Values) Evaluate each function. Use radians for your answers when appropriate.
9
Type 5: Algebraic Evaluate each function. Use radians for your answers when appropriate.
