2 The mission of the US Navy is to train, maintain, and equip combat-ready Naval forces capable of winning wars, deterring aggression, and maintaining freedom of the seas.

3 The purpose of US Naval forces remains to project the power and influence of the nation across the seas to foreign waters and shores in both peace and war.

4 Est 13 Oct 1775 as the Continental Navy. The Navy act of 1794 made it the US Navy. It had only 6 frigates in the beginning. The War of 1812 was the war to use solely sail powered ships in military combat. USNA founded in 1861. Civil War saw the first uses of iron clad ships. 1902 saw the introduction of armored cruisers and battleships. By the end of WWI we had more sailors in uniform then the British Royal Navy. WWII was the last war to use battleships in major conflicts. Vietnam saw the use of guided missiles in official combat operations.

6 Basic training is a 9 week long process. Some of the MOS that sailors can be trained in are SONAR technician, mine man, gunner’s mate, and missile technician.

9 Sending ships to the middle east to help defend American allies. The Philippines to stop the Philippine terrorist groups. North Korea to stop their aggressive moves against the south and the Japanese islands
