Volcanoes The bowl shaped area at the top of a volcano is called a ____________. The huge hole left by the collapse of a volcanic mountain is called a ___________. Crater Caldera
5
Volcanoes Magma can harden under ground and make these landforms: Lava and ash combine to make these landforms: Volcanic necks, sills, dikes, and batholiths Shield, cinder cone and composite volcanoes, and lava plateaus
6
Volcanoes What are the three types of volcanoes that we studied? Give a description of each type in terms of shape, types of eruptions, and what they are made of. Shield – gently sloping, quiet, lava Cinder cone – steep/tall, explosive, ash, cinders bombs Composite – Medium/conical, quiet and explosive, lava, ash, cinders and bombs
7
Volcanoes What are the main parts of a volcano? Volcanic rock is called ___________ rock Two types of igneous rocks are: Magma chamber, pipe, vent, side vent, crater, ash cloud, lava flow Igneous Pumice and obsidian
