The Grant Is a packaged global grant Rotary and AKU To provide nursing scholarships Enrolled Nurse to Registered Nurse Diplomas Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree

The Scholarships must... Relate to the Rotary Foundation’s mission Have active participation of Rotarians Support admitted students of AKU in EA – academic excellence/interest in fulfilling TRF mission Exclude liability to TRF except for funding of the grant amount Adhere to laws of US and Kenya

The Scholarships must... Fund only approved and reviewed activities prior to their implementation Comply with the Conflict of Interest Policy for Grant Participants Comply with the Proper use of Rotary Marks Relate to Maternal and child health Provide sustainable and measureable outcomes Sponsored by the district with a mentoring club for each student

Sponsoring District Must be qualified by the Foundation All Committee members be in good standing with RI and TRF

Role of Rotarians Communicate scholarship opportunities to students with AKU staff Review applications, select recipients and submit completed application to TRF Designate Rotary Clubs that will provide mentors Initiate contact with assigned scholar for mentoring Attend Mentoring orientation event at AKU with scholar

Role of Rotarians Work with scholar to arrange fellowship activities, networking, mentoring etc during the program Alert TRF on stewardship issues or allegations of inappropriate behaviour Submit progress and final reports to TRF

Global Grant will fund... Tuition costs Domestic travel Books Lab Fees Room and Board Other program costs as agreed between TRF and AKU

Restrictions Use to unfairly discriminate Promote particular political or religious view point Support purely religious functions at places of worship Activities that involve abortion or those undertaken solely for sex determination Purchase of arms (See guideline for additional restrictions)

Process Scholars submit application to AKU AKU compile and forward to Rotary Country Committee Chair Committee screens and selects and forwards list to D9200 primary contact Primary contact – Sam Farouk- compiles and includes in the district scholarship application

Process District application uploaded online. Must be accepted by end July prior to start of each academic year District may apply without scholar applications and details No payment until names and individual applications are reviewed by TRF Final decision by TRF

Scholar Criteria Good knowledge of Rotary Solid commitment to participate in activities and service with their sponsors Admitted to any of AKU’s EA campuses Strong background and high potential in: Academics Professional work Community work Personal Character

Scholar Criteria Maintain good academic standing with AKU for entire duration of scholarship Attend AKU mentoring orientation with Rotary mentors Active participation in the mentoring program

Payments Funded by TRF from the World Fund Will be paid directly to AKU once all conditions are met To be paid in annual instalments

Reporting Within 12 months of receiving first grant payment Every 12 months after Scholar End of every academic year brief report to AKU on mentoring AKU Annual report to include: Scholar mentoring reports

Reporting Scholar’s academic status Financial accounting for funds Rotary Mentoring club – mentoring activities District primary contact compile reports and submit with the district report

Mentoring To be done by qualified clubs Clubs to be selected by the country committee Before start of program mentors to take part in the orientation program of AKU Mentoring club to initiate contact

Mentoring Minimum activities that are to be undertaken: –Email/phone calls at least once a month –Face to face meetings at least twice per academic semester –Rotary club visit once per year
