What is Turnitin? Isn’t a tool for checking originality? Don’t we use it to detect plagiarism? Don’t the teachers already do this? Isn’t this more time-consuming for teachers?

Professional Development All teachers participated in a webinar to learn about the program and what features are available Does more than just check for originality Can be used in multiple content areas, not just ELA classes Saves time in grading Important tool for feedback

Feedback is the Key Puts the process back into the writing process Allows for quality writing assignments across the content areas Promotes collboration between content areas Encourages inter-rater reliability through use of the rubric

Features of Turnitin (Observed) Quality feedback by teachers is possible because of time-saving features Detailed explanation of grammatical errors Accessibility to all teachers Same amount of rigor/reliability between content areas Promotes dialogue and collaboration between teachers across the curriculum

Next Steps…from the Survey Teacher feedback indicates the importance of the availability of technology, preferably daily and in-classroom access, especially in CORE areas Program is fairly simple to use More time with the program is needed to learn fully about the benefits More professional development regarding use of the grading rubric is needed Teachers must have basic competencies in computer technology and online programs
