Demographics:  Born & raised in Detroit, Michigan  Educated by the Detroit Public School system  Graduated from the top public high school in the city of Detroit (1 of 3 that requires Students to test into)  Graduated high school with honors and multiple scholarship offers  Married a Sailor, relocated, and enjoyed the ride ever since  Graduated from Ashford University October 2014, BA in Health and Human Services  Time left until retirement from the Navy: 21 months, 3 weeks, 6 days remaining (but who’s counting )

3. Professional Experiences/Background: Active Duty Navy for 18 years, 3 months Trained Behavioral Health Technician Qualified Navy Instructor Master Training Specialist Currently stationed in San Diego, CA

4. Impactful Education Experience: The most impactful educational experiences that come to mind are from high school. Academically, I was thriving, but small sacrifices had to be made to ensure that I arrived safely everyday. I lived on one side of town and my high school was on the opposite side. My mother and stepdad did not own a vehicle at the time, so I utilized the public transportation system, which required me to catch three buses through questionable neighborhoods. My grades never suffered and I arrived safely each day. Dedication and determination sustained me through the days. Being another statistic was not an option. I am happy to say that my cousin is now a freshman at my alma mater and takes pride in walking in my footsteps.

5. Why this degree? Chosen specialization: Family and Community Services Stepping stone to reaching professional goals of assisting at risks youth and young adults Better prepares me in reaching my goals Will be used as a vehicle for giving back and assisting others

6. Future Roles/Careers in Education: With my background in mental health/counseling, I would like to step further into the field and exhaust any opportunities available to start my own nonprofit. Possible roles: - School counselor - Adolescent psych counselor - Teacher (elementary/middle school) - School Administrator
