GSC17-PLEN-04r1 GSC-17, Jeju / Korea 2 Highlight of Current Activities (1/2) IPTV Working Group of TTC –Members :IPTV operators, Telcos, Broadcasters, Cable standardization organizations and manufactures (e.g., network equipment, TV sets.) –Discuss contributions to a ITU-T (especially IPTV-GSI). Digital signage (DS) services in Japan –IPTV key technologies are applicable to DS services (e.g. Contents delivery, multimedia presentation.) –The services are commonly seen in both public and private areas in Japan with advent of new technologies of displays and broadband digital networks. –Growth rate of networked-DS systems are higher than non-networked.

GSC17-PLEN-04r1 GSC-17, Jeju / Korea Highlight of Current Activities (2/2) ITU-T Recommendation on DS –H.780 “Digital signage: Service requirements and IPTV- based architecture” was published in June, 2012 –TTC worked on this item positively. ITU-T new Question on DS –ITU-T Q14 of Study Group 16 “Digital signage systems and services” was established in January, 2013 –There are five work items: H.DS-AM: audience measurement for digital signage services H.DS-ARCH: functional architecture H.DS-META: metadata H.DS-DISR: requirements for disaster information services HTSP.DS-UCIS: Use-cases regarding interactive services

GSC17-PLEN-04r1 GSC-17, Jeju / Korea 4 Strategic Direction Affirmative cooperation with global standardization members, especially GSC participants, are highly expected –TTC has intimately collaborated with TTA in this field –Q14/16 Rapportuer is a member of TTC, associate Rapportuer is with TTA. Harmonize between domestic and global de jure standardization –IPTV WG co-operates with a domestic body “Digital Signage Consortium (DSC)”, of which the purpose is market developments and business promotions in Japan including standardizations.

GSC17-PLEN-04r1 GSC-17, Jeju / Korea 5 Challenges Harmonize between domestic and global de jure standardization –TTC tries to coordinate between Japan standard-activities regarding disaster information services and global standards on emergency telecommunication services. The DS services is growing and is expected to harmonize with wide range of new services –One of important work items is study on interactions among fixed DS terminal devices and mobile-phones (e.g., communications among DS services and anonymous audience)

GSC17-PLEN-04r1 GSC-17, Jeju / Korea 6 Next Steps / Actions TTC continues to enhance the current Q14/16 standardized items, especially on disaster DS information services and interactive DS services. With the appearance of new multimedia technologies (e.g., Ultra High-Definition (4K, 8K), H.265, HTML5), new work items may be treated as DS standards.
