15 University Student Initiatives Fall 2006 Freshman Class  Largest class in ASU’s history – 9,052; a 7% increase from the Fall 2005 class, a 33% increase since 2002 and a 109% increase since 1996.  Thirty-two percent of the resident freshman class are students of color (140% increase since 1996).  Sixteen percent are students from the top 5% of their high school graduating class; twenty-eight percent from the top 10% totaling 1788 (a 31% increase since 2002).  188 National Merit Scholars, 64 from Arizona; 8 Flinn Scholars.
