Membership Requirement Proposal (proposed at September 24 th Quarterly Meeting): Each member will be required to participate in 8 AOE events over the course of 2 years Assure appropriate and accessible offerings for AHEC and other faculty who have a hard time coming to AOE seminars Reminder for AOE members who fall behind on completion of requirement 66% N=98 34% N=51 149 AOE members responded! Update on Bylaw Changes Beat Steiner, MD, MPH
6
Membership Requirement Changes: The Qualtrics survey confirmed that the majority of you agree that the AOE should be more than an honorary society. Your multiple choice responses and your open ended comments confirm that the majority of you desire an engaged AOE that actively promotes and supports excellence in teaching and educational scholarship and that provides a forum for education leadership, advice, and advocacy. However, a significant minority were also opposed to instituting a minimum number of AOE activities as a requirement for membership. Update on Bylaw Changes Beat Steiner, MD, MPH
7
Based on these results we propose the following course of action and welcome additional comments: We propose that at this time, we hold off on instituting formal requirements for membership. But we will continue to reach out to members to engage them in important activities of the AOE. We will also clarify on future solicitations for new members and for renewal of current members that membership in the AOE includes a professional obligation to participate in the activities of the AOE. We believe this will best allow the AOE to fulfill its mission within UNC Medical School and the Health Care System. Update on Bylaw Changes Beat Steiner, MD, MPH
