Rotary Global Grant Medical Supplies and Equipment for a Village Primary Health Care Center in South Sudan

Rotary Club of Boston #7 is leading a Global Grant partnership to assist a rural village in South Sudan

South Sudan is located in east Africa. The world’s newest nation, South Sudan is one of the poorest places on earth.

A typical village home in South Sudan

In rural villages, babies are usually born at home. South Sudan has one of the world’s highest infant and maternal mortality rates.

Even today access to clean drinking water is limited in some rural areas.

With the support of the local community and their NGO partner, the village of Wunlang has installed clean water, constructed a health center, and staffed the clinic with trained health workers who provide basic health services.

The floor plan consists of six rooms.

The rooms have no furniture or equipment, so staff and patients sit on the floor – as in this training session for traditional birth attendants.

Simple shelving stores basic supplies the community has been able to source locally with the help of their NGO partner.

Global Grant Synopsis With this grant, we plan to – Acquire, ship, deliver, and deploy medical supplies and equipment for the health center – Provide basic training in equipment operations and maintenance – Monitor and evaluate use of the equipment and health center services Key partners – Rotary Club of Boston #7 – Rotary Club of Juba (South Sudan) – IMEC Other partners – Other clubs and districts – Individual donors – Perhaps you?
