Determine the Origin Find out who was last to leave the scene of the incident Determine if the fire was natural or an accidental cause ◦ Types of natural causes: gas leak, electrical system, sunlight, smoking, etc…

Document the place of origin Take photos of origin and the damange location Take written notes of the scene Sketch the scene

Collect & preserve evidence Prevent contamination ◦ Wear gloves ◦ Use new materials to package evidence Package, label, & data evidence ◦ Package items so they will not be damaged during transportation

Document how the scene appears upon release Make sure all evidence has been taken from the scene Submit report to appropriate departments
