Warm up (write on a slip of paper, but don’t turn in) Can you answer these? 1.Tell what each letter represents in the formula A = s 2. 2.Tell what each letter represents in the formula A = bh. 3.Find the area and perimeter of a square with sides 5 cm long. 4.The perimeter of a square is 28 cm. What is the area? 5.The area of a square is 64 cm 2. What is the perimeter? 6.Describe or draw: perimeter, diagonal

Theorem 10-1 Area of a Rectangle Theorem 10-2 Area of a Parallelogram A base of a parallelogram is any of its sides. The corresponding altitude is a segment perpendicular to the line containing that base, drawn from the side opposite the base. The height is the length of an altitude.
4
Theorem 10-3 Area of a Triangle A base of a triangle is any of its sides. The corresponding height is the length of the altitude to the line containing that base.

Area of a Rhombus
7
Area of a Trapezoid
8
Area Addition Postulate The area of a region is the sum of the areas of its non-overlapping parts.
9
Example 1 Consecutive sides of the figure are perpendicular. Find the area of the total figure. Additional Question: If this was carpet, how much Would you pay if $4.00 sq. ft?
