2 Was the first time in history that art, poetry and music focused on teaching people to care about each other. In this sense, Romanticism was “art with a heart.” Romantic artists were also concerned with promoting individual liberty, ending slavery, and supporting democratic and independence movements.

3 Hector Berlioz (1803 – 1869) Johannes Brahms (1833 – 1897) Frederic Chopin (1810 – 1849)

His compositions include: Symphonie Fantastique (1830) Romeo et Juliette (1839) Early Life – He learned to play the flute and guitar, and became a self-taught composer. Honoring his father’s wishes, he studied medicine in Paris, but left his medical studies behind to pursue music as a composer. While in Paris, Berlioz became impressed by Christoph Gluck’s operas. This exposer to Gluck’s operas motivated Berlioz to enroll at the Paris Conservatoire in 1826 to study music.

Following three unsuccessful attempts to win the Prix de Rome, Berlioz finally won in 1830 and two years later had his symphony performed. * There are five movements, instead of the traditional four. * https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=cao6WyF-61s https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=cao6WyF-61s
