2 2 Multi-Band Radio (MBR) pilot projects started in Kentucky and in the Pacific Northwest. The lead agencies for the Kentucky pilot, the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management and Murray State University, currently have two MBRs. OIC received an anecdote that one of these was used by a pilot participant during a search and recovery mission. It was reported that one MBR replaced three single band radios. The 2010 Olympics Affiliates pilot will be conducted on both sides of the border before, during, and after the 2010 Olympics. On the U.S.-side, the lead agency is the Blaine Police Department and on the Canadian-side the lead agency is the Vancouver Transit Police. A total of ten MBRs are being deployed to Blaine and Vancouver. The City of Blaine is located in Whatcom County along the Canadian border so T&E of cross-border communication is planned. Vancouver Transit Police expects to communicate with light rail, heavy rail, bus, ferry, Canadian Pacific Railway Police, and Canadian National Railway Police. Multi-Band Radio

3 3 Equipment from four different manufacturers completed the P25 Compliance Assessment Process. Summary Test Reports and Supplier’s Declarations of Compliance for products are available on the Responder Knowledge Base (https://www.rkb.us/search.cfm?query =&action=5&typeid=5) https://www.rkb.us/search.cfm?query =&action=5&typeid=5 Dr. Boyd testified on May 27 before the US House of Representatives, Committee on Science and Technology, Subcommittee on Technology and Innovation. Reiterated P25 CAP’s intention to maintain a balance between conformity to P25 standards, and placing burden on manufacturers. Representatives from the Public Safety Communications Systems, National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST); the International Association of Fire Chiefs; Motorola Inc.; and Harris Corporation also spoke at the hearing and providing additional insight into the issue. 4 4 Public Safety Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Working Group demonstrated its Bridging System Interface (BSI) Core Profile at the International Wireless Communications Expo (IWCE) in Las Vegas, Nevada March 10 – 12, 2010. A VoIP implementation profile is a collection of existing standards, parameters, and values necessary for VoIP-based devices to connect with one another. Three manufacturers participated in the demonstration that showed bridging systems with interfaces built to these specifications allows emergency response agencies to seamlessly connect radio systems over an IP network—regardless of the manufacturer. Each participant had a working gateway device at their respective booths and communicated to the other participating manufacturers across the conference floor and/or to remote sites. 5 5 In partnership with the Public Safety Communications Research program, OIC hosted the third Video Quality in Public Safety (VQiPS) Workshop from February 1-3, 2010 in Boulder, CO. More than 50 attendees convened to discuss comments and provide recommendations on Version 1 of the Video User Requirement Guide. Working Group discussed the path forward to develop the technical components of Version 2 of the guide. Workshop participants indicated interest in conducting usability testing of Version 1 of the guide to assist further refinements. The VQiPS Working Group, comprised of representatives from public safety, academia, and industry, anticipates publishing Volume I of the VQiPS User Guide published July 2010 For further information about the VQiPS Working Group please contact, VQiPS_Working_Group@sra.com T VQiPS_Working_Group@sra.com Video Quality in Public Safety
