1 Y5/6 Residential – Morfa Bay Information Meeting Monday 13 th June 2016

2 Morfa Bay is an excellent opportunity for the children in Year 5/6 to meet with other children in their year group from other Corpus Christi feeder schools.

3 Coaches and Travel Arrangements The coach will depart from St Philip Evans Primary School at 8:45am on Friday 17 th June. Children need to be at school by 8:30am at the latest with all of the luggage. Please come to the school hall. The coach will leave from Coed Y Gores layby. The coach will return to St Philip Evans Primary School at roughly 2-3pm on Monday 20 th June 2016. We will contact you by parentmail of our ETA but your child can stay in school until 3:30pm. 4 The Morfa Bay residential provides the children with the opportunities to build upon the following skills: Teambuilding Problem solving Independence Confidence

5 Equipment List A CHILD SHOULD BRING: (Please ensure that a name is shown on each item of clothing.) 1.Sleeping bag and pilloe 2. Night clothes 3. Spare clothes (not the best). Shorts (in case of of hot weather!) Jumpers T-shirts Underwear Tracksuits/sportswear Jeans are permitted but not recommended. Numerous pairs of socks 4. WATERPOOF COAT

6 Equipment List 5. swimming costume and towels. 6. Trainers or suitable shoes for walking, and an old pair of shoes or wellingtons for the horse-riding and motor bikes. 7. VERY OLD CLOTHES FOR OUR MUDDY ADVENTURE COURSE (April – October). Very old clothes should be sent for this activity – clothes you don’t mind getting very dirty or even thrown away after the activity or on returning home as this activity is very muddy – but a great deal of FUN. 8. Disco clothes 9. Black bin bag for wet clothes (a special present for mums and dads.) 10. Sun cream 11. Towel, wash kit (shower gel, shampoo,toothbrush, toothpaste, roll on deodorant, ) Teddy bear

7 Equipment List IMPORTANT: You should ensure that a name is shown on each piece of clothing (especially swim wear) - a large number of untagged items are left every week! Please try and pack your child’s bag with your child so that they know what belongs to them. Your child needs to be able to carry their won bag! They are only going for 3 nights!

8 What is NOT Needed Please don’t allow your child to bring a radio or personal music player (e.g. iPod, iPad), computer consoles or expensive toys, torches or mobile phones (there is no reception in the area) to the Centre, and due to Health and Safety regulations, aerosol sprays (please bring roll-on deodorant), portable electric equipment e.g. hair dryers, straightening irons, curling tongs and travel irons are not permitted. Your child will not need these at all; so don’t send them. If children do bring these personal items then they will be collected at the beginning of the course and returned at the end. Any other valuables may be left at Reception for safekeeping e.g. cameras. Provide a disposable camera instead. WE WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LOSS OR DAMAGE TO THE ABOVE ITEMS IF BROUGHT TO THE CENTRE.

9 Shop The Centre has a shop that sells sweets, drinks and souvenirs. Children may bring up to £20 to spend in the shop. Teachers are happy to look after purses and wallets if they are clearly labelled with the child’s name. If a child decides to take responsibility for their own money, we cannot take responsibility for loss. The shop is usually opened by accompanying staff at a convenient time to the timetable.

10 The Bedrooms All children sleep in centrally heated bedrooms; the boys are in one cabin and the girls in another. The children are responsible for making their beds and keeping the rooms tidy. We ensure that each child knows where to find help during the night from staff who are close at hand. Corridor lights are on throughout the night. Foam pillows are provided.

11 Meals Four meals are provided each day: breakfast, dinner, tea and supper - with a variety of Healthy Eating menus to suit all tastes. The Centre has been awarded a Food Hygiene Rating of 5 (see http://ratings.food.gov.uk/Welcome.aspx) under the Food Standards Agency’s Food Hygiene Rating Scheme. Children with allergies and special diet requirements are catered for e.g. a nut allergy, gluten free, diabetic, no dairy products, etc. - please inform us a week in advance so that the necessary arrangements can be made. Please ensure this information was included on the Health Certificate. Vegetarian meals are available at all mealtimes. Cold drinks are provided free of charge at all times. 12 The Telephone Please do not arrange for your child to phone home at the beginning of the course. If you do not hear from us you can be sure that your child is safe and well. We will contact you immediately there is a problem with health or homesickness. If you have a message for your child you are welcome to contact (Reception 01994) 453588 enquiries@morfabay.com). 13 Activities A full programme is provided in line with the course leaders requests, with a range of activities – All of the above activities are staffed by qualified centre staff. There is also a multi-purpose sports hall, outdoor playing fields, and an all weather playing area. Abseiling Archery assault course (mud), body boarding, bushcraft, caving, coasteering, climbing, gorge walking, high ropes, hiking, mountain biking, woodland scramble, zip line

14 Health, Safety and Care Staff at St Philip Evans have arranged the course in conjunction with the Centre’s management and specialist activity staff. In addition to the Centre staff, teachers accompany parties from schools. The children are closely supervised on all activities, and all equipment is regularly inspected to ensure that it is safe and suitable for use. Arrangements at the Centre have been developed to provide a safe and caring environment for children at the Centre, and on activities. Staff operate activities to the highest safety standards. The centre has a Risk Assessment and strict staff guidelines for every aspect of the Centre’s work as well as for any problems that might arise. Staff ensure that children know what to do in an emergency, in case of accidents or illnesses and all centre staff are first aid trained. There is someone available at all times, day and night. There is a night porter on duty throughout the night. There are also CCTV cameras strategically placed around the Centre. The accommodation blocks and main gate are locked during the night.

15 All health certificates have been completed. You are also ask to give specific details of treatment (dosage and timings) for any medication which will be sent with your child (prescription and/or non prescription). If you feel you need to alert staff on any additional information, which hasn’t been stated on the form, please send further details prior to our visit.

16 Medication. Medication must be placed in a clear bag or box, clearly labelled with the child’s name and clear instructions and details provided. MEDICATION CANNOT BE LEFT IN CHILDREN’S LUGGAGE. Medication must be given to teachers before the children leave. All medication will be kept securely and administered accordingly (with the exception of asthma pumps, or any other form of medication which would require the child to keep their medication on their person). Ann Other Hay fever Tablets 1 tablet before breakfast (8am) 1 tablet before dinner (6pm)

17 Evening Activities During the evenings there is an array of activities on offer from, night walk, games, disco and much more.
