Geography 11/22 to 11/25

+ GEOGRAPHY GRADE 9 November 22 nd, 2015 DO NOW: List 5 factors affecting climate! (5 MINUTES timed) No TALKING, it will affect your Behavior Grade CLASS RULES: 1.BE PREPARED (Text, Folder, Pens, Planner) 2.Remain Seated 3.Raise your hand quietly 4.No bathroom, locker, bag visits 5. Be Respectful, NO arguing or Talking back 6. Leave completed work on first desk as you leave class. OBJECTIVE: Examine Climate Change EXIT TICKET: Name one biome…. Write it down in your student agenda. Check as leaving class HOMEWORK: WRITE IT DOWN! PROJECT DUE DECEMBER 9! Finish 9.2 due Monday

+ GEOGRAPHY GRADE 9 November 23 rd, 2015 DO NOW: Describe 2 things you learnt from the TED Talk! (7 MINUTES timed) No TALKING, it will affect your Behavior Grade CLASS RULES: 1.BE PREPARED (Text, Folder, Pens, Planner) 2.Remain Seated 3.Raise your hand quietly 4.No bathroom, locker, bag visits 5. Be Respectful, NO arguing or Talking back 6. Leave completed work on first desk as you leave class. OBJECTIVE: Examine Climate Change EXIT TICKET: Name a second biome…. Write it down in your student agenda. Check as leaving class HOMEWORK: WRITE IT DOWN! PROJECT DUE DECEMBER 9! Worksheet review TUESDAY

Monday 11/23– Global Warming Global warming: Increase in the average surface temperature found on earth. ( So not the increase in the temperature of one place, but if you take the average of all the temperatures found on earth in different places) Greenhouse Effect: The layer of gases released by the burning of coal and petroleum traps solar energy causing higher temperatures

Global Warming A greenhouse: captures light and turns it into heat (similar to a car sitting in the heat) Used to help grow plants/fruits/vegetables, etc. in places that don’t necessarily receive a lot of light and/or heat Gases being produced by pollution are acting like a greenhouse.

Ted talk AL GORE GLOBAL WARMING NEW THINKING ON THE CLIMATE CRISIS LISTEN CAREFULLY AND WRITE DOWN 5 IMPORTANT POINTS OR EXAMPLES ABOUT CLIMATE CHANGE.

Classwork Finish section assessments 3.3 and 3.4 for Thursday. You may work with a partner.

Review Define ecosystem and biome.

+ GEOGRAPHY GRADE 9 November 24th, 2015 DO NOW: What have you learnt about global warming? (7 MINUTES timed) No TALKING, it will affect your Behavior Grade CLASS RULES: 1.BE PREPARED (Text, Folder, Pens, Planner) 2.Remain Seated 3.Raise your hand quietly 4.No bathroom, locker, bag visits 5. 12 Global Warming Argument For CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions are higher than ever as we produce more pollution Argument Against Historically there are natural increases and decreases of gases in the atmosphere (325,000 years ago)

Tuesday 11/24– Global Warming Evidence For Rise in Sea Levels – Sea levels rose 17cm over the last century, but have risen twice that much in the last decade

Tuesday 11/24– Global Warming Evidence For Surface temperatures have increased, but overall temperatures in the atmosphere have been flat for roughly 20 years. Evidence Against

Tuesday 11/24– Global Warming Evidence For The arctic ice sheet has increased in size by 50% since 2012. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =gWT-EWKIR3M http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =gWT-EWKIR3M Evidence Against

Wednesday 11/25 Do Now List and describe at least 2 pieces of evidence that support global warming and 2 pieces of evidence that are against global warming.

Wednesday 11/25 – Impacts of Global Warming Rising Sea Levels – Floods Drought – farming, wildfires; desertification Plant growth – What happens if plants can’t grow Health Risks – Carbon Dioxide vs. Oxygen More Extreme weather extremes (more severe)

Wednesday 11/25 – Impacts of Global Warming So What do we do? Do we ignore it? Or Should we be proactive?

Assignment Create a cause and effect chart relating to global warming. You should include at least 5 causes and effects in relation to global warming.
