Aims for this session By the end of the day you should be able to: State the Personal Protective Equipment used in a Warehouse and Storage environment. Identify the essential contents of an accident report.

What is Personal Protective Equipment? PPE is equipment that will protect the user against health or safety risks at work. Safety helmet 00 by Anthony Appleyard

PPE - What are the legal requirements? It is a legal requirement under the HASAWA that where protective equipment is provided it must be: Fit for the purpose, and fit correctly Maintained to standard Stored safely and in the appropriate place Reported should it be defective or lost Used as and when directed

Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) PUWER requires that equipment provided for use at work is: suitable for the intended use safe for use, and well maintained used only by trained people accompanied by suitable health and safety measures. (including emergency stop, isolation from energy sources, visible markings and warning devices)

What is an accident? An unplanned, uncontrolled event which has led to or could have led to: Injury to people Damage to plant machinery or the environment Other loss 10:3 – Identify the accident. Complete the worksheet.

Accident reports An accident report form is a document used to gather and record the details of an accident such as: time, place and chain of events.

PPE – Falling objects! 5 out of every 6 workers who had head injuries were not wearing the right headgear.

Protection! 85dB hearing damage is irreversible Dust, grit, splashes & fumes. 40% of all those injured are actually using eye protection – the wrong sort! Falling objects (again), rolling objects, chemical spills

Protection! Be seen by other people! Cuts, chemical and heat burns, cold. All potential causes of hand injury. The second most common cause of days off work!
