Data Intercomparison – FAAM Flight Phil Rosenberg, Angela Dean
2
Defining in cloud legs Following as best I could Jeff’s Method Defined a cloud as any region where we get CDP concentration > 50 cm -3 for at least 5 s. Defined cloud edge where we fall below this level for at least 5 s Discarded any clouds with more than 10 counts in any second with diameter > 130 µm on CIP15 (conc ~50 l -1 ) This give us 13 cloud passes to work with. Discarding based on 0 limit for CIP left us with only 3 cloud passes – maybe need to look at an objective size/count limit.

Example Cloud Passes
5
A Note on CDP Calibrations Bumps in size distribution Related to potential wiggles in response curve, which are a function of optical alignment, etc
6
To Do Make use of CDP Calibrations Filter cloud passes based on updraft speed and plot CDP size distributions Check reason for CDP lag Process other LWC measurements (Nevzorov, Lyman Alpha TWC, FWVSS2). Output data/plots for direct comparison with King Air
