The Messiah Written in English in 1741 The librettist was Charles Jennens who compiled most of the liturgical text from the King James Bible Also, the Psalms included throughout come from the Book of Common Prayer It is divided into three parts: Part I: The anticipation of the coming of the Messiah and the virgin birth (Luke) Part II: Christ’s Passion and Death, Resurrection and Ascension Part III: Promise of Redemption, impending day of Judgement
