6 The Messiah  Written in English in 1741  The librettist was Charles Jennens who compiled most of the liturgical text from the King James Bible  Also, the Psalms included throughout come from the Book of Common Prayer  It is divided into three parts:  Part I: The anticipation of the coming of the Messiah and the virgin birth (Luke)  Part II: Christ’s Passion and Death, Resurrection and Ascension  Part III: Promise of Redemption, impending day of Judgement
