Blood filled with glucose (after eating) When blood glucose levels are high, the Pancreas secretes insulin which is a chemical messenger to tell the cells to absorb nutrients ( including glucose).

If glucose levels are too high too long -insulin messages the liver and muscle cells to remove glucose and store it as glycogen. -If glucose levels drop below a certain point, glycogen is retrieved from the liver and changed back to glucose then released into the blood.
