1. FUTURE OCCUPATIONS COMENIUS 2009-2011 During the last 20 years, most students have wanted to study at university so that they can work as public servants or self employed businessmen/women. A survey that we conducted at the school in 43 fifteen- year-old students, gave us the following results:

Only 1 out of 4 students chooses to attend 3 years in a technical school after High school whereas 3 out of 4 choose to attend 3 years in Senior High school and then take exams to go to university. 3 out of 4 would like to live in a big city, regardless of what job or career they have, because there will be more opportunities for work and entertainment there, and 1 out of 4 wishes to work abroad preferably in central or southern Europe.

3. For those who want to follow technical education, the most popular occupations are in construction or repairs. For those who want to study at university, the most popular occupations are in the army, police, teaching and occupations that have to do with health and beauty.

4. Agriculture and stock breeding are not organized or profitable so young people try to find different work. They only resort to these when there is no other option. In jobs that require technical education or no special skills, there are a lot of people working without insurance and many illegal immigrants.

Most of the students asked, would like to: -work in a place where many others work -help or take care of people -have flexible working hours -have a secure job Half of those asked, would like to: -have a high salary -have free time -travel for their work -have the sense of creativity in the workplace Only a few wanted to: -make things with their hands -have a chance for publicity through their work
