THE EFFECTS AND INFO ON GLOBAL WARMING/CLIMATE CHANGE CREATED AND PRESENTED BY BRANDI GRAHAM
2
WHAT IS GLOBAL WARMING AND WHY IS IT HAPPENING? Global warming is the term used to describe a gradual increase in the average temperature of the Earth's atmosphere and its oceans, a change that is believed to be permanently changing the Earth's climate. It is happening because carbon dioxide is causing all the fuss now, but there are many other gases that also cause warming. Other gases discharged through human activities such as methane gas, and chlorofluorocarbons, made famous by the ozone hole, are not thought to have as big an impact on global warming as carbon dioxide, but in the same amounts they cause more temperature rise than carbon dioxide, so concerns about them are rising.

GLOBAL WARMING CAUSED MAJOR EVENTS IN THE UNITED STATES “It’s global warming, stupid,” the magazine boldly declared. In its detailed report on the storm, the National Hurricane Center was similarly plain-spoken about the bizarre and far-reaching extreme impacts: “…houses were washed from their foundations, boardwalks were dismantled or destroyed, cars were tossed about, and boats were pushed well inland from the coast.” And that was just in New York and New Jersey. In West Virginia and North Carolina, a blizzard dumped more than a foot of snow. Scary stuff, indeed. And exactly the kind of danger that EDF scientists and many others have been warning about for years. The science is clear: Human activity is causing our climate to change.
5
WILD FIRES AS A RESULT OF GLOBAL WARMING Colorado wildfires were larger than normal due to unusually warm temperatures and extremely dry conditions in Colorado’s forests. Many do believe this is a result of a warming climate. We may be seeing more fires with climate change because of drier conditions, explained Vera Smith, who directs policy and planning for The Wilderness Society’s National Forest Action Center in Denver.
6
FLOODS DUE TO CLIMATE CHANGE Scientists say climate change magnified the effects of a storm blamed for at least 12 deaths in the south-eastern US. After weekend downpours, flooding continued to overwhelm large parts of South Carolina and North Carolina in what was described as a “once-in-a- millennium” storm. Individual weather events cannot be attributed to climate change, but climatologists say atmospheric conditions tied to climate change intensified this downpour. 2015
7
COULD YOU HELP REDUCE CLIMATE CHANGE? 10 ways to reduce climate change: 1.reuse, reduce, recycle 2.Use less energy around the house – (electricity, heating/cooling) 3.Save the world by changing a light bulb 4.Ditch the car 5.Buying Energy-Efficient Products 6.Use Less Hot Water 7.Make a routine of turning Everything off 8.Plant a Tree 9.Get a Home Energy Audit done (an assessment of the energy needs and efficiency of a building or home) 10.Encourage Others to Recycle/Get involved
8
HOW DOES THE COUNTRY PAY FOR THESE CHANGES? As president I would plan to put places in the U.S. to create other energy sources like the ones listed in the next slide and to and convert people from using gasoline to using solar panels by raising the corporate tax by 1%.
9
WHAT OTHER COUNTRIES ARE INVOLVED? China will be involved because it as a country has a large population and a lot of pollution.
10
WHAT ENERGY SOURCES COULD REPLACE FOSSIL FUELS? We would be converting to solar energy sources. Solar panels/energy is very reliable because the sun is one thing that is going to be in existence for a long time. Solar energy is also very reliable because there is also a lot of land in the U.S. to put solar panels to use.
11
CHANGES YOU WILL SEE By the end of 2030 the U.S. will no longer be using fossil fuels but using solar energy. The gas stations would turn into electric charging stations for electric cars and the electricity will no longer be from coal and oil but from solar energy.
12
IN WHICH STATES WILL THIS BE IN EFFECT ? This plan to reduce emissions will be in effect in the following states: California Washington Arizona New Mexico Colorado
