NameSeite Communities — how to characterize them? Forms of publication Various culture of publishing (sharing!) research results Material scientists work with Data types rather: e.g. Musicians working on correspondance Object of research Various views on the same data: e.g. form vs. Content Communities of methods Various views on the same data: e.g. methods network
3
NameSeite Issues No real emphasis on scientific fields as such General feeling of the hermeneutic approach Generic tools and methods vs. Individual analysis of data Data is somehow never free of interpretation Primary data vs. Observations Consensus as to the direction to follow Simple environments Priority is to make the content available to scientists Simplicity should not be at the expense of genericity User-centred perspective Allow the scientist to recombine available technologies/tools No complex workbench Discipline orientation for outreaching purposes
4
NameSeite Consequence on working environments High stability of methods is expected Emergence of new research questions Importance of connecting different sources of data Left to the scientist Cf. simplicity (simple tools that can be combined) New complexity resulting from the availability of huge amount of data Shift of activity (mining) Some paradigm shifts for disciplines moving from a data poor to data-rich situation Evolution of the evaluation schemes Recognition for non classical written contributions (books) No revolution to be expected though Experiments on news paradigms (data journals) should be supported
5
NameSeite Consequence on the university environment Recognition of local competence centre still poor Difficulties to dissociate technologies and research Identify room for digital humanities methods in curricula Transversal training activities Conclusion…
