My Goal as a Teacher I believe every student can learn math! Many times students who do not like math have had an experience that led them to believe they are not “mathematically minded.” My goal as a middle school math teacher is to build up their confidence that everyone can be “mathematically minded.”

The break-down for Integrated Algebra 7 is: Participation 10% Homework 20% Tests/Projects 70% Participation – Students will evaluate their participation several times during the quarter according to assigned guidelines. It can also include Warm-ups, Exit Tickets, and Planner checks. Homework – Homework is intended to help students practice the material learned in class. It is expected that homework will be completed or at least attempted with accompanying questions that, if answered, would clarify any confusion on the day assigned. Assessments – Quizzes, tests, and projects are given to check for student understanding and will help to guide future learning. The break-down for Integrated Algebra 7 Plus is: Participation 10% Homework 15% Test/Projects 75% Students will be evaluated on homework, tests, projects, and class participation.

Homework Policy I understand that families are busy outside of school. For this reason, I do my very best to provide multiple nights for students to complete an assignment. Homework will be assigned in smaller “chunks” related to what is taught throughout the week. Typically, all homework is then due on Tuesday. In addition, I want students to feel safe making mistakes and learning from them on homework assignments. Therefore, I take most homework as a completion grade based on a ten point rubric.

Here’s to the kids who are different The kids who don’t always get A’s The kids who have ears twice the size of their peers And noses that go on for days. Here’s to the kids who are different The kids they call crazy or dumb, The kids who don’t fit with the guts and the grit Who dance to a different drum. Here’s to the kids with the mischievous streak, For when they have grown, as history’s shown It’s their difference that makes them unique. By Digby Wolfe
