The Book of Deuteronomy Looking Backwards Moving Forward Part Three – Hear, Keep, Heart March 6, 2016

The Book of Deuteronomy 1st Speech – Chapters 1 – 4 2nd Speech – Chapters 5 – 26 X Hear, Keep, Heart

And Moses called all Israel, and said to them: “Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your hearing today, that you may learn them and be careful to observe them.” Deuteronomy 5: 1 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.” Deuteronomy 6:4-5

In them is the prophecy of Isaiah fulfilled, which says: ‘ Hearing you will hear and shall not understand, And seeing you will see and not perceive; For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing …’ Matthew 13: 14 – 15 You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! Acts 7: 51 He who has an ear, let him hear … Revelation 1: 29 Revelation 1: 29

For if you carefully keep all these commandments which I command you to do … Deuteronomy 11: 8 You shall diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God,… Deuteronomy 6: 17 … always keep all My commandments, the statutes and the judgments … Deuteronomy 5: 29

Surely the L ORD our God has shown us His glory and His greatness, and we have heard His voice … if we hear the voice of the L ORD our God anymore, then we shall die. Deuteronomy 5: 24, 25

Oh, that they had such a heart in them that they would fear Me and always keep all My commandments, that it might be well with them and with their children forever! Deuteronomy 5: 29

For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. Hebrews 4:2 Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your heart. Psalm 95: 7, 8 Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your heart. Psalm 95: 7, 8 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. Matthew 13: 19

“Behold, the days are coming, says the L ORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the L ORD.

For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the L ORD : I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the L ORD,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” Hebrews 8: 8 - 12

The L ORD our God made a covenant with us in Horeb. The L ORD did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, those who are here today, all of us who are alive. Deuteronomy 5: 2 Behold, the days are coming, says the L ORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. Hebrews 8: 8 God has not cast away His people … for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. Romans 11: 2, 29

ISRAEL WAS TO HEAR THE LAW OF GOD WE ARE TO HEAR THE SON OF GOD Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him? Hebrews 2: 1 - 3

ISRAEL WAS TO KEEP THE LAW OF GOD WE ARE FREED FROM THE LAW AND SERVE WITH A NEW HEART But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter. Romans 7: 6 I agree with the law that it is good…. For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. Romans 7: 16, 22
