The Learning and Skills Council n Birth: April 2001 n Responsible for funding, quality control and co- ordination of all (bar HE) post 16 education (including school VIth forms from April 2002) –FE colleges –prisons –UFI/ Learndirect –Local authority (adult ed/ libraries) –private providers.

The LSC Priorities n 16 -19 n Inclusive Learning –Lifelong Learning –Widening Participation –Basic Numeracy and Literacy Disaffected and Disengaged Controlled Curriculum via QCA

English FE n Over 400 Colleges –General –Agricultural –VIth form n Range of partnerships with HE n Little research but lots of good practice only local competition

Sector Organisations All part of NLN (National Learning Network) Funding from LSC, DFES, JISC n Becta (Member of IMS) –Schools, FE and community remit –evaluation and support (govt agency) –Metadata (Community and FE Extensions) n NILTA –Practitioner Support, disseminating good practice n LSDA/ Feda (Member of IMS) –research –skills development but much overlap
