Key Figures Timothy Leary (October 22, 1920 – May 31, 1996) A highly influential American psychologist and writer that strongly advocated trying LSD claiming that its potential within the field of psychology was boundless and its emotional, spiritual, and therapeutic benefits were undeniable.

Key Events CIA: In its MK ULTRA project, the CIA tested the effect of LSD as well as other psychedelic drugs on volunteers called the Merry Pranksters.

More Key Figures Ken Keasey (September 17, 1935 – November 10, 2001): He was one of the Merry Pranksters that participated in the LSD trials of the CIA. He wrote numerous accounts on his experience and popularized almost all the drugs of the time. Wrote the book One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest about his time in the hospital.
