2  What are They?  A preposition is a word that is used with a noun or pronoun to form a phrase that shows where, when, how, and why.  Prepositions also show the relationship between the subject and object of a sentence OR two objects  For Example…  The cat sits on the couch.  During the party, we played Twister.

3  Prepositions can tell time, place or location.  During  Between  Before  Under  Prepositions may come in the form of prepositional phrases  prior to  ahead of  in front of

4  Prepositions may serve as other parts of speech as well; many work as adverbs or adjectives.  So, how can we tell if it’s a preposition? Look at the FUNCTION that the word serves.  If it demonstrates a relationship (time/place) between a subject and object of the sentence OR two objects …then it is a preposition!

6 Choose one of the following options: Write a paragraph describing an object using 5-6 prepositions with at least 2 prepositions not relating to time/place Write a poem/song lyrics fulfilling the same requirements for prepositions (5-6 total, 2 cannot be time/place prepositions) Have fun with prepositions!
