1 Prepositions

2 What is a preposition? Prepositions are words that describe relationships between nouns or pronouns and other words in a sentence. Example: A mouse squeezed through the tiny hole.

3 The word through is a preposition
The word through is a preposition. Without it, the reader would not know what the tiny hole had to do with the mouse. The tiny hole is the prepositional object. Through the tiny hole makes up the prepositional phrase.

4 Prepositions can describe
Location Time Direction Purpose or other relationships. (over, in), (before, after), (for) along considering given per

5 Circle the preposition. Underline the preposition's object.
Soda cans are made from aluminum. The sneaky cat hid behind the curtain. Madeline rolled the marble across the dinner table. Underline the prepositional phrases in each sentence. The treasure is buried between the two coconut trees. Did you order your favorite dish at the restaurant? Brittany took a picture of me with our grandfather. We found the matchbox on that shelf.
