Physics Introduction

STATION 1: SPEED, ACCELERATION, VELOCITY Write down the following definitions: Speed: The distance an object travels in a given amount of time. Velocity: Speed in a given direction. Acceleration: a change in velocity in a period of time.

STATION 2: RELATIVE MOTION Watch the animation showing relative motion. How is motion different for each perspective? http://www.classzone.com/books/ml_science_share/vis_sim/mfm05 _pg7_relmotion/mfm05_pg7_relmotion.html http://www.classzone.com/books/ml_science_share/vis_sim/mfm05 _pg7_relmotion/mfm05_pg7_relmotion.html

STATION 3: MOTION GRAPHS Describe the motion happening in the graph below:

STATION 4: MOTION Differentiate between the motion of a baseball and a jet.

STATION 5: Penny Myth There is a myth that if a penny is dropped from the top of the Empire State Building, it could kill someone. Do you think this is true? Why/why not?

STATION 6: Isaac Newton Watch the video about Isaac Newton and write down one thing you learned. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuFAfD7Krhk

STATION 7: Newton’s 1 st Law of Motion Newton’s 1 st Law of Motion states that an object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion unless acted on by an unbalanced force. Explain what you think this law means in your own words.

STATION 8: MOTION AND FORCES LEARNING GOAL 4321 In addition to level 3, I am able to make in depth inferences and applications that go beyond what was taught in class. I am able to explain the following basic principles and concepts of Physics: Force Motion Mass Speed Velocity Acceleration Newton’s Laws of Motion Distance-Time Graphs Velocity-Time Graphs I am able to identify: Force Motion Mass Velocity Speed Acceleration With help, I can perform at level 2/3.

STATION 8: MOTION AND FORCES LEARNING GOAL – 3 DIRECTIONS 1.Cut out your learning goal tracker and glue it into Page 37. 2.Title Page 37, Motion and Forces Learning Goal Don’t forget your Table of Contents 3.Move your name tag on the wall.

STATION 9: Glue the Paper Into Your Notebook 1.Title the page: Physics Introduction, Page 37 Don’t forget your Table of Contents
