Third Party Data Access Green Button Connect My Data (CMD) Con Edison and O&R support third party data accessibility – Key aspect of AMI program Business case driven by granular usage availability for mass market data Plan to evaluate Green Button CMD for the following reasons – Based on modern technical principles (REST APIs, Oauth 2.0, XML) Aligns with new digital customer service platforms – Clear customer-driven authorization process – Fully automated data transfer once customer authorizes – Nationwide standard Will support adoption by third parties Benefit from vendors who are investing Learn from other utilities that implemented GB – Secure Development of alternatives would be costly and duplicative 2
3
3 Green Button Connect My Data Initial Benchmarking Phased approach Complex and costly implementation – Benchmarks 12 to 18 months $5m to $19m – Ongoing support resources are required – Requests for additional data to be exchanged using Green Button Connect CMD have added cost and complexity Adoption not widespread
4
4 Green Button Connect My Data Outstanding Issues Data to be exchanged – Usage Data (best place to start) – Customer Profile Data Not part of the Green Button standard Potential complexity and privacy issues Request Options – One Time Historical – Ongoing – Temporary
5
5 Data Questions – Timeliness (next day, more real time) – Granularity (hourly, 15 minute, 5 minute) – Quality (Validation and Estimation, bill quality?) Cost of Data – Data available for no cost – Fee structure for access to additional data More frequent access More granular data Green Button Connect My Data Outstanding Issues
6
6 DPS role and process for approving and suspending third parties – DER UBPs Developing process that meet unique needs of stakeholders – Non ESCO third Parties (GBC) – ESCOs – Direct customer access Phasing out existing data access methods – Costly and complex to support multiple / existing methods Green Button Connect My Data Outstanding Issues
7
7 Continue Green Button CMD evaluation – Address outstanding issues – Consider cost vs. adoption / value Make “go / no go” determination If a “go” determination is made – Develop detailed cost / implementation plan – Target implementation to support AMI roll out in 2017 Green Button Connect My Data Next Steps
