Divert Divert (v.) = turn away di= from, away vert= turn She didn’t want him to notice her shoes, so she diverted his attention to the TV.

Differ Differ (v.) = carry different qualities, opinions, or characteristics dif = apart fer= = carry We look a lot alike, but our political opinions differ greatly.

Endocrine Endocrine (adj.; n.) = relating to glands that secrete hormones into your blood; an endocrine gland Endo = within krin = separate There is an endocrine gland located just under the adam's apple in the throat.

Exocrine Exocrine(adj.) = relating to a gland that secretes externally, onto a surfance Exo = outside Krin = separate The exocrine glands were releasing hormones down a particular tube.

Extraterrestrial Extraterrestrial (adj.); (n.)= of or from outside the earth; someone or something that is outside the earth extra = beyond terrestri = earth al = related to It was clear that the creature was extraterrestrial; many believed it to be an alien.

Heterogeneous Heterogeneous (adj.) = not of the same kind hetero = different gen = kind ous = Full of The population is heterogeneous; there are people from all over the world who live there.

Homophone Homophone (n.) = two words having the same sound but having different meaning; can be spelled the same or different Homo = same phone = sound “He bought her a rose” and “the curtain rose” both have homophones.

Illuminate Illuminate(v.) = cause something to be lightened Il = in Lumin = light Ate = make, cause The wisdom from the preacher illuminated her dark mind; she had been going down the wrong path for a long time.

Irrigate Irrigate (v.)= supply with water Ir = in Rigar = water Ate = make, cause The directions say to irrigate thoroughly with water for 10 minutes.

Ignoble Ignoble (adj.) = not honorable in character or in purpose Ig = not nobilis = noble He has done many ignoble things in his life that he is not proud of.
